| Jay, I think the teleseminar was fantastic and really made me think about my business and our clients. I look forward to reading the chapter and getting the book. Also, I think you made some great suggestions on following cues from successful retailers following your suggestions. |

In this audio, you will find out why Industry organizers and groups aren’t interested, or just will not put these topics on the agenda for presentation at industry conferences !
From the desk of Jay Townley:
In responding to our January post tele-seminar survey questions participants said their greatest concern going forward is competition from web retailers and eBay. As I understand it this topic has been hotly discussed on the dealer e-lists and exchanges and was prominent at the Bicycle Leadership Conference as well.
The great overarching change from the 20th century to the 21st century has been the end of the last industrial age and the rise of the information age and society. The Internet and the world-wide-web have empowered everyone, and instant access to information has put buyers in charge of the marketplace. The Internet has also given the power to make anyone who wants to be a retailer.
As bad as you think this is, and as much as you complain to your suppliers, this fact will not change or get any better. Suppliers can implement Internet Policies, but all the supplier policies in the world are not going to change the growing power of the Internet from enabling you, me, actually everyone we know to become retailers … with the assistance of eBay and other similar virtual malls and retail community sites.
Disintermediation is another name for this trend.
Join the small group of elite retailers who will survive and even THRIVE during the imminent "disintermediation" of the bicycle industry.
